Fife Council is the first council in Scotland to gain a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Silver Pledge award for its practice in purchasing sustainable wood and paper.
WWF’s local authority sustainable timber procurement pledge scheme forms part of the organisation’s What Wood You Choose? campaign which highlights the impact of using illegal and unsustainable wood and wood products.
Twenty two councils in Scotland have made a bronze, silver or gold-level pledge to improve the way they purchase wood and paper, and Fife was the first to be formally awarded a silver-level pledge.
Following an audit by WWF, Fife Council was given the award for “choosing projects, contracts and products where only recycled and sustainable timber products will be used.”
